Higher Education Report: Great Shortage of Data Specialists and Computer Science Teachers

The German higher education system has become more international, more permeable and more heterogeneous in the past five years. But: The change to a digital, flexible and optimal job preparation system has not yet been achieved.

The current edition of the university education report with the focus on "Equal Opportunities Education" was published by the Stifterverband and McKinsey & Company. “Our higher education system is basically moving in the right direction, but not fast enough,” explains Volker Meyer-Guckel, the deputy general secretary of the donors' association. The interim results are particularly alarming for the field of teacher education: there are fewer and fewer STEM students starting teaching and male elementary school teachers, the professional and practical aspects of the courses are rated extremely poorly.
